When the sustaining drought of this year in the southwest of China developed into disaster, news from the drought-stricken regions gripped the public concern. To deal with the lasting and serious drought, Sichuan Pump Club decided to leave for the disaster area first on April 1. Then Sichuan Radio Amateur Association issued the initiative to help fight the drought. While the Pump members were making active donations, as its long-term commonweal partner, Benevolence also contributed 10,000 RMB to provide drinking water for the school students of the disaster area.
The delivery was supported and assisted considerably by the municipal government of Kunming, the bureaus of education and sports of Dongchuan District, by providing transportation help, guiding the recue routine and helping decide on the assistance targets as Donghe Village in Chilu Town of Fumin County and Hongshan Primary School in Yinmin Town of Dongchuan District respectively at the altitude of 2,000 and 3,000 meters.
Along our journey, life had been made rather difficult by the drought, which not only caused the problem of water shortage, but also destroyed the harvest, as well as made it impossible to grow new crops and vegetables. And for continual lack of water, the rate of people and animals getting diseases would be growing. It seemed that the task of combating the drought remained difficult.
